Located at 119 Blackbridge Road in Albany, our sanctuary serves as a critical lifeline for equines with nowhere else to turn. We are more than a facilityβwe are a promise of safety, healing, and hope.
Founded on the principles of the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare, we provide comprehensive care that addresses both immediate emergencies and long-term rehabilitation needs.
Equine Welfare New Zealand exists to ensure that no horse is left to suffer. We respond to cases of neglect, abandonment, starvation, and abuse across New Zealand, providing urgent intervention when owners cannot or will not provide adequate care.
Our work operates in full accordance with the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare:

Operating with full transparency and accountability
Behind every rescue is a dedicated team of volunteers, veterinarians, and animal welfare advocates. We work tirelessly in all conditions to ensure equines receive the care they desperately need.
From emergency rescues in remote rural areas to long-term rehabilitation at our Albany sanctuary, we see each equine as an individual deserving of respect, care, and a second chance.
