Sanctuary in Albany

Located at 119 Blackbridge Road in Albany, our sanctuary serves as a critical lifeline for equines with nowhere else to turn. We are more than a facilityβ€”we are a promise of safety, healing, and hope.

Founded on the principles of the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare, we provide comprehensive care that addresses both immediate emergencies and long-term rehabilitation needs.

Our Purpose

Equine Welfare New Zealand exists to ensure that no horse is left to suffer. We respond to cases of neglect, abandonment, starvation, and abuse across New Zealand, providing urgent intervention when owners cannot or will not provide adequate care.

Our work operates in full accordance with the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare:

  • Freedom from Hunger and Thirst – Access to fresh water and proper nutrition
  • Freedom from Discomfort – Safe shelter and comfortable living conditions
  • Freedom from Pain, Injury, or Disease – Immediate veterinary care
